062: How to Raise Children with Hearts on Fire for Christ with Kim Cameron-Smith

I found a treasure with nuggets of wisdom related to raising strong Catholic children and I can’t wait to share it with you! My conversation with Kim Cameron-Smith about her book, Discipleship Parenting: Planting the Seeds of Faith, was an eye-opener for me. When I read the book, it brought to light many of the things I didn’t have growing up and how it affected my relationship with God.

Kim said that, as parents, two of our primary duties are to evangelize our children and “relationship formation so that catechesis takes hold and faith is “sticky.” It’s that sticky faith that forms part of their identity and the way they perceive themselves in the future.” She also talks about what to do when we feel poorly prepared to evangelize our children and what to do when we’re feeling overwhelmed.

Kim Cameron-Smith is the founder of the Intentional Catholic Parenting online ministry and the host of the Gentle Catholic Parenting Podcast, where she explores the intersection between Catholicism and the science of parenting. Her understanding of what it means to live joyfully and intentionally with her children continually grows and evolves as she learns more about them, herself, and how God has created us to find him in all things, especially relationships. Kim is a licensed attorney and a member of the California State Bar. She received a B.A. in English from Wellesley College, an M.Phil. in Medieval Literature from Oxford University, a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard University, and a J.D. from U.C. Berkeley. She lives in Northern California with her husband Philip and their 4 children.
